Your Podcast Show Notes Should Do These 3 Things (Most Don’t)
Most podcast show notes are just a copy/paste of the episode description.
That’s a missed opportunity.
Your show notes should do 3 things (and most podcasters skip at least 2)
1. Help people decide if they want to listen
Your show notes are like a movie trailer; they need to hook the reader and make them think, “I need to hear this.”
Include:
What the episode is about (in 2-3 sentences)
Why it matters to your audience
What they’ll learn or take away
Bad example: “In this episode, we talk about health.”
Good example: “Struggling with afternoon energy crashes? In this episode, I break down 3 science-backed strategies to stabilize your blood sugar and feel energized all day - no caffeine required.”
2. Make the content skimmable
Not everyone has time to listen to a full episode. Some people want to scan for the parts that matter to them.
Include:
Timestamps for key topics
Bullet points of main takeaways
Key quotes or stats mentioned
This also helps with SEO - search engines can’t listen to audio, but they CAN read show notes.
3. Drive action
Your podcast isn’t just entertainment - it’s part of your business strategy. Your show notes should guide listeners to the next step.
Include:
Link to your website, services, or lead magnet
CTA (book a call, download a resource, follow on Instagram)
Links to resources or tools mentioned in the episode
Most podcasters miss this entirely. They write a vague description and call it a day.
